After the fall of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in 1687, Hyderabad came under Mughal control. However, as the Mughal Empire weakened, its governors began asserting independence. One such leader was Mir Qamar-ud-Din Khan, who laid the foundation for the Asaf Jahi dynasty in 1724, becoming the first Nizam of Hyderabad.

The Nizams were known for their wealth, administrative prowess, and patronage of art and culture. Under their rule, Hyderabad flourished into one of the richest princely states in India. The city saw advancements in education, infrastructure, and trade, making it an important center of commerce. The Nizams introduced a sophisticated administrative system, built magnificent palaces, hospitals, educational institutions, and reservoirs that continue to serve the city today.
